July 5th.

This was a day spent studying parables with Rabbi Moshe Silberschein, whose expertise is in Classic Rabbinical Literature.

The morning was classroom time; learning more of Jewish worship and going over different parables. Small things, such as punctuation, can affect the interpretation immensely. There is way too much to absorb in a day, but already I can see why a change in perspective can be important.

The afternoon began with a bus ride to the Museum of the Good Samaritan. The parable of the Good Samaritan is set on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho, as is the museum. The museum is full of mosaics from both Jewish and Samaritan Synagogues. he museum was on the edge of the desert (wilderness); next we went north to an area far different, one with trees and hiking trails. We hiked down to some different spots. Along the way, Rabbi Moshe pointed out many plants used in the parables and Scripture; pomegranates, dates, fig trees, capers, and grape vines. There is so much I have never given thought to.
